Child Developments fake babies

I am in 7th period which is child development and we get to use the fake babies. They cry a lot and I don't really feel like we get the point of having real children because we only get them for less than a period. If we had them a bit longer like how they used to do in past years and take them home with them I think that we would get the point across a bit more. We also have to stick a key in their back to make them stop crying but with actual children its not that easy. Other babies cry for a lot of reasons and when they cry they usually need something. With these they don't really need anything other than sticking a key into their back to make them stop crying. I feel like this doesn't teach people the right lesson of having a child. It gives them the idea that soothing a child is very easy and in reality it is not. Real babies cry for no reason or when they do cry it isn't as easy to stop them like the fake babies make them to seem. In all honesty I don't really think that having the fake babies teaches us a lesson at all other than to stop a robotic child to stop being so loud and annoying.

Community Service

I don't really know how to start this or what to write seeing how this is my first blog and first official blog post. Well I guess next month I will be having a Douglass Middle School student following me through all of my classes. Her name is Vanessa Camargo and I'm her mentor through Friday Night Live. Friday Night Live is a program where you mentor Middle school children to make the transition from middle school to High school easier for them. That's kind of why my mentee Vanessa will be following me all day.

I really like her, we get along great. She is very loud, outgoing and funny. I feel like since I started mentoring her back in September our bond has grown and we have become really good friends. We even follow each other on Instagram and are friends on other social media like Snapchat. I hope that even when the program ends we will still be great friends. Its kind of sad that the program will be ending soon but I hope that we wont lose touch. She is currently an eight grader so next year she will be a freshman when I'm headed off for college. That's a little sad because I wont be there for her at school when she starts High school.

I know that when I was going to start High school I was kind of worried and scared. I hope that I have helped her enough to know that she will make the best out of her High school experience. She is a very wonderful young woman and I know that she will try to enjoy whatever comes her way. I am so glad that I joined Friday Night Live with intentions to complete my Community Service and I came out with a great friend. I believe that that is the intention of Community Service, not to help others but to better yourself as a person as well.
